Mike russell, triathlon coachMike can offer private coaching for swimming, cycling or running (see below for more details).
Mike is a triathlete from Team Outrageous and has competed in a range of over 467 triathlon & strongman events since 1980. He is also involved with the organisation and race directing for the Maidstone Mile. His impressive CV includes 38 Ironman distance, 2 at double Ironman distance, 1 triple Ironman distance and 197 half Ironman distance; the rest have been over various distances. Raced for GB as age grouper at all distances since Gold Coast Olympic (Australia) 1991. His longest race, The Crazyman, was a swim from Catalina Island, California 32 miles, cycle 500 miles through Mojave Desert then run "Western States" 100 miles. Took part in the first Fosters Quadrathon in Brighton swim 2 miles, race walk 31 miles, cycle 100 miles then a marathon 26.2 miles, finishing in the appropriately named Gravesend! Many long distance ocean /open water swims, including 4 channel relays (fastest team in 2010), the round Manhattan swim in New York (38 miles), the Sicily to Malta swim (144 miles) and to date, the only person to swim from Lunghi to Freetown in Sierra Leone, 6.4 miles of rapid currents on the West African coastline inlet. Also swam around the Hilton Islands in the Maldives, 6 miles of severe currents, and many other UK based swims. |
Mike's has brought his vast knowldege of these events to the ORC Triathlon and without him, we wouldn't even be staging this event. Our heartfelt thanks go out to him.
From this incredible experience he coaches teams and individuals in all things triathlon and extreme endurance events. Over to Mike.
Swim coaching, we can offer either individually, or as a group (max 4). Each session is around an hour and we ALWAYS get in the pool with you, to see what you are doing under the water. This is the most important part!! Subject to pool time at the Tonbridge School, Tuesday evenings are best for us, but we can possibly arrange other times/venues by arrangement. Weekend evenings possible, subject to agreement.
Costs - Individual 1 to 1 lessons are £30 per lesson (about 1 hour). Group lessons (max. 4) are £20 each; all group lessons are taken by myself and my colleague, Debs.
In addition, I coach cycling and running. I can also coach people on transitions; preparing for the end of the bike and start of the run.
